Reciprocol Relationships: There is only one relationship that offers unconditional love.

reciprocal relationships

Think of any relationship that you have.  Why do you like or love that person?  Why do they like or love you in return?   Is it because they do things for you that you enjoy?  Do they listen when you're down, provide a shoulder to cry on or surprise with a simple kind gesture when you really need it?  Or, do you love them because they just make you feel good when you are around them?  Does this person like or love you because you do something similar for them?

The answer is... probably.   Most human relationships are based on reciprocity, meaning that people like you  for what you can do for them or what value you add to their lives and you like people for what they can do for you or what value they add to your life.   Before you start shaking your head, saying that you're different, and you're not just out to get things from people or gain something by having a relationship, just think about it for a moment.  If you do, you'll realize that it is true. Family, friends, boyfriend/girlfriend, teachers, role models... whatever relationship you have.  If you serve no purpose to someone, do they still love you?   If someone serves no purpose to you, do you still want them around?   Chances are, the answer to both questions is no.

But what if there was one relationship that was not like this?  What if there was a relationship in which you knew that you had absolutely nothing to offer that was really needed, but you were still loved in return?

Guess what? There is one relationship like this!  God loves you, yet you cannot offer God anything that He needs.  God does not need our love, yet He welcomes it.  God does not need our obedience, yet He is pleased by it.  God does not need anything from us, yet He loves us anyway.   His love is unlike any other love you will ever experience.  His love is the TRUE LOVE that you have been searching for, the love and acceptance that you so long to feel.  His love will never fail. "He will never leave you nor forsake you" Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)

If you are wondering just how much God loves, you, John 3:16 is the ultimate expression of His love. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in HIm should not perish, but have everlasting life." (KJV) and also 1 John 4:10 "This is love; not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent us his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." (NIV)

Have you done some things you are not proud of?  Do you think you are unlovable because of these things?  Or, do you not see the miracle that you are, the wonderful creation that He has wrought in you, and feel that there is no reason why you should or would be loved?  Then you need to know that there is nothing that can separate you from the love of God. "Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" Romans 8:39 (KJV)

This is good news!  It means that you can stop searching for love (especially if you have been searching for it in the wrong places) and bask in the love that will never leave you.  The love that you have been searching for has been there all along.
