An Invisible Barrier of Protection
Have you ever wished that you had a shield? Perhaps even one of those invisible sci-fi shields that protect from all things? Guess what… you do! God is your shield!
I’m severely allergic to wasps – severely! Any time I see a wasp, I run in the other direction. I’m always on the lookout for these little stinging menaces in the summertime. Quite often, I’ve had perfectly enjoyable moments ruined by the appearance of a wasp.
The other day, I stood at the screen door admiring the bounty of flowers in the front yard and just enjoying the cool breeze on my face. It was one of those truly, peaceful moments that happen so infrequently. Suddenly, an enormous wasp showed up to admire the flowers closest to the door. It was so close that I could hear the flutter of its wings as it hovered near my face. A chill raced down my spine as my body recognized the danger - but I did not run.
Instead, I stayed right where I was and continued to admire the view. I did not let the presence of this danger distract me from my enjoyment. Why? Because I knew that the wasp could not get to me. It could not pass through the screen to sting me. I knew that the (nearly) invisible barrier would protect me and shield me from the danger that the wasp represented. As I stood looking at the wasp so close to my face, knowing that I was completely and utterly protected, I realized that this is what God does for us in every minute of every hour of every day. He is our shield, and our refuge. Our safe place…
What if, from this moment on, you put your faith in Him and trusted completely in His protection? How would that change your life? Would you worry less? Would you have less anxiety? Would you feel free to enjoy the blessings that God sends to you without always being on the lookout for the hidden dangers?
Memorize verses 2-3 from 2 Samuel 22. Hold this promise to your heart. Close your eyes and imagine God shielding you from all of the dangers in the world, and release those fears and anxieties that you have bottled up inside of you. If you are prone to worry and anxiety, like me, then you may find this to be a little difficult. But, once you truly place your trust in Him and feel that burden of worry, fear, anxiety and stress slide off of your shoulders, you will never want to go back to carrying that load and trying to protect yourself from every evil in the world again. Rely on God. Let Him protect you.
Does this mean that you will never get hurt, or suffer sorrow or pain or loss? No. Does this mean that God is there with you, shielding you from the worst of it, when you do experience these things, that He will be your refuge, your fortress and your deliverer? Yes, it does.
Trust in Him!
2 Samuel 22:2-3 KJV
And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
